Martha Mount MSc Clinical Psychology
Introduction
I’m Martha, an Irish expat living in the Netherlands with experience in diverse mental health settings worldwide. I believe therapy should be accessible to everyone, which is why I offer affordable, compassionate support without long wait times.
With therapy often being costly and difficult to access, my online practice provides a flexible and welcoming space for those seeking meaningful change. Helping others heal and grow has always been my purpose, and with deep care and an open heart, I hope you find support through Karuna Therapy.
I’ve always been fascinated by the connection between the mind, body, and soul. Through my studies, I discovered how unprocessed emotions and trauma can manifest as physical symptoms, signalling unresolved struggles.
This led me to focus my thesis on how unprocessed trauma, particularly in women who experienced sexual abuse, can present as physical symptoms. It reinforced my belief in a holistic approach—addressing root causes rather than just treating surface-level symptoms—to prevent misdiagnosis and inadequate care.
Healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. While Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is highly effective in addressing thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, I believe it is best complemented with a holistic perspective. By tailoring therapy to each individual’s needs, I create a more personalized and effective healing journey.
Studies and Holistic Interest
My early work with clients with special needs and disabilities led me to explore alternative therapeutic approaches, including art, dance, and movement, as tools for emotional release and self-expression. Seeing the profound benefits—not just for my clients but for myself—sparked my commitment to accessible and holistic mental health support.
Recognising that many adults feel intimidated by or lack access to traditional therapy, I became dedicated to integrating low-cost, practical interventions that improve well-being. While working in elderly care, I introduced a simple gratitude practice for staff, inspired by Positive Psychology, which had lasting positive effects on morale and mental resilience.
My approach blends counselling with holistic techniques, empowering clients to make meaningful lifestyle changes that support both emotional and overall well-being.
Experience
I first tried Reiki during a period of deep grief after losing a close family member. Though naturally spiritual, I was skeptical—yet searching for deeper healing. Meditation had always helped me process emotions, but Reiki took that healing to another level.
I hadn’t realized how much unprocessed grief and trauma was trapped in my body, creating tension and fatigue. During Reiki, I experienced deep insight and clarity at a time when my whole reality had been swept from underneath me. I felt grounded in my body, in my life, and most profoundly, connected to the person I had lost.
This transformative shift reshaped how I processed grief and moved forward with my life. Feeling a strong affinity with Reiki’s healing power, I knew I wanted to facilitate it for others—offering a space for emotional release, balance, and deep inner healing.
Reiki
I wanted to create a space where you can find an approach to treatment that suits your individual needs and preferences. I recognise that while some people prefer CBT based counselling structures, others would prefer to focus on physical healing and emotional release before vocalising their struggles. Whatever you need, I hope that I can help you with what you are looking for.
